The Complicated World of Insurance Made Simple

When I bought my first home, I had a real estate agent lead me through the entire home-buying process. This made it simple and easy for me. However, when it came time to choose a homeowners insurance policy, I became very confused about what made up a good policy. I started by doing a lot of online research into what homeowners insurance features were needed in my area and then finally called an agent who led me step-by-step through choosing the policy that was best for me and my home. I learned a lot during my research and time spent talking to my agent. I have also learned a lot about other types of insurance over the years, so I thought I would start a helpful blog all about insurance. I enjoy helping others, so come back often for new tips!

Prevent Injuries And Protect Yourself In The Event An Accident Occurs At Your Business

If you own a country store that features an outdoor petting area that houses some common animals that often live on farms, including cows, goats, pigs, and horses, preventing injuries and protecting yourself in the event that an accident occurs inside of your store or outdoors near the animals is a must to avoid being sued or receiving bad reviews about your establishment. The following options will assist with proper coverage.

Install Safety Rails Out Front And Stack Products Neatly Indoors

If steps or a ramp lead to the front door to your business, install safety rails on either side of the steps or ramp so that patrons or employees won't be likely to slip and fall if it it raining or snowing. If inclement weather occurs that results in a coating of ice on the steps or ramp, pour rock salt across the affected surface to promote melting.

When merchandise arrives at your store, unpack boxes and stack products in a neat manner, leaving plenty of space in between stacks so that people can look at items without needing to strain or attempt to squeeze between various piles of merchandise. Avoid creating stacks that are tall so that merchandise isn't likely to topple over.

Remove Obstructions On A Daily Basis

Make a habit of unloading shipments in one part of your store that is not next to areas where patrons are likely to walk. If you tend to leave small items in cartons and lay cartons across tables and flooring so that customers can reach inside and select items that they wish to purchase from each one, remove the cartons from the store as soon as they are empty. It is a good idea to walk through the store each day to inspect the premises and remove any items that may obstruct your staff or customers and cause an accident.

Go outdoors near the animals and inspect the gate that surrounds them. Again, remove any debris that has fallen that may cause someone to trip and keep the property raked and trimmed on a routine basis.

Obtain Insurance Coverage

Contact an insurance agent to inquire about liability insurance and workers compensation. A liability insurance policy will protect you in the event that a consumer or employee is injured on your property and will relieve you of any monetary debts associated with a particular incident. If an accident occurs, notify your insurance company promptly to assist with filing a claim.

Workers compensation will ensure that your employees will receive benefits if an injury occurs that prevents them from performing their work duties. A worker will receive part or all of their pay while out of work which will allow them to tend to their medical needs. Contact an agency, like Welsh Insurance Agency Inc., for more help.
