The Complicated World of Insurance Made Simple

When I bought my first home, I had a real estate agent lead me through the entire home-buying process. This made it simple and easy for me. However, when it came time to choose a homeowners insurance policy, I became very confused about what made up a good policy. I started by doing a lot of online research into what homeowners insurance features were needed in my area and then finally called an agent who led me step-by-step through choosing the policy that was best for me and my home. I learned a lot during my research and time spent talking to my agent. I have also learned a lot about other types of insurance over the years, so I thought I would start a helpful blog all about insurance. I enjoy helping others, so come back often for new tips!

When You Can Expect Your Auto Insurance To Be The Cheapest

People aren't exactly thrilled about having to get insurance. It's simply a necessary thing in life. While it may be necessary, it doesn't always have to be expensive. In fact, there are a few different ways you can find cheap auto insurance. There are different scenarios and life milestones that can result in great insurance discounts.

Insurance Costs Gets Better With Age

While aging can cause some heartache, it can come with some discounts. Once you are out of your teenage driving days, your insurance will usually begin to drop. Once you are over the age of 25, you can usually see a more significant drop in your monthly premium costs. While age is not the only factor in how an insurance company analyzes your costs, if it's coupled with other signs of responsibility, it can bolster your insurance rating.

Insurance Costs Improve With Consistent Driving Record

One of the surest ways to significantly increase your insurance premium is to get a ticket. If you get a DUI or a more serious offense, you may find it difficult to get affordable insurance. Doing whatever you can to prevent points from getting on your record can help keep costs down. For some traffic offenses, you may be required to attend driving school. This will prevent points from going on your driving record. If you are consistent with your driving and get no traffic tickets for three years, you should see all previous points drop off. Having those points removed will lower your insurance costs, and it's important to let your insurance company know that your record is clean. This may require you to send them a copy of your driving record.

Insurance Costs Are Lowered by Going to School

Some students may have heard that future employers don't really look at your GPA. That may be true in some circumstances, but insurance companies will look at your GPA — that is, if you let them. A good GPA will actually give you a discount that other student drivers don't enjoy. Going to school and working hard to get at least a B average will give you close to a ten percent discount on your auto insurance. This is one of the best discounts you can get from an insurance company.

If you want to drive, auto insurance isn't an option. It can be expensive to pay, but the more responsible an insurance company thinks you are, the more likely it is you will see big savings. It's important to know how to get discounts and what documentation your insurance company needs to give you the discounts you've earned. Your agent will be able to help you process any documentation you need to provide and help you apply all the discounts.
